Towanda Area Jr/Sr High News

This year’s annual Halloween Window Painting contest theme was “Hero vs Villain.” This is a Towanda tradition since the sixties. There were one hundred and eighty students that participated on 90 windows on Main Street Towanda. Students submit a drawing to be chosen, and then spend the field trip day downtown painting. While there, they visit the local shops and have lunch at a local restaurant. All grades from Towanda Jr/Sr High school may participate. The following were selected as the place winners by a panel of administrators who took the time to judge the windows based on neatness, theme, creativity, originality, and use of color.

The Class of 1971 generously donated $500 to Rachel’s Closet. Rachel’s Closet began 4 years ago with a school district venture grant. The closet is a place where students can find items they are in need of such as toiletries, shoes, clothing and outwear. Items that are not donated, are purchased for students to pick up on a regular basis. The donation is greatly appreciated. Rep Tina Pickett toured Towanda Jr. Sr. High School this past week. During her tour she visited several classrooms having an opportunity to visit with teachers and students. Also during her time she was able to see how schools have had to change due to the pandemic and the many challenges they face. Part of her visit was a discussion about the importance of in person instruction and how students learn best when they are with a skilled teacher on a daily basis and not learning on line. Wednesday, October 20th is National Unity Day. All staff and students of TASD will wear orange to show that TASD is a unified school district that promotes kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to prevent bullying.

On Thursday, September 30, students in 8th grade attended Green Career Day at Sunfish Pond County Park. Students learned about and participated in hands-on acitivities in careers in environmental and natural resources, such as forestry, fisheries and wildlife, agriculture, green energy, and land and water management. Students enjoyed creating floral arrangements, catching fish to be studied, climbing trees, and a variety of other activities.

Towanda Jr/Sr High School recently held their Homecoming festivities. The Homecoming Court pictured from left to right are: Aziza Ismailova, Bella Hurley, Paige Manchester (Homecoming Queen), Eliza Fowler, and Katherine West(1st Runner-up).

Congratulations to Hannah Ryck for becoming the 2022 Bradford-Sullivan Counties Outstanding Young Woman! Also, Anna Glantz on receiving 4th runner up. Hannah received individual awards as well in Interview, Presence and Presentation, Scholastic and Achievement, Sue Stanton Community Service Award, and Scott Wilcox Fitness Award. Arienne Strickland received the individual award of Aerobics and Fitness Award.

Picture day for students in grades 7-11 will be held on Tuesday, October 5th.  Please dress appropriately.

We are pleased to inform you that Towanda Area School District will be participating in (CEP) known as the Community Eligibility Provision in the 2021/2022 school year. This program is available to schools and districts that are participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.
