September Students of the Month

Mr. Ross is proud to recognize the September Students of the Month. Students are nominated by their teachers and peers based on civility, academic performance, academic improvement, community care & involvement, personal achievement over obstacles, and representing Black Knight Pride! This month’s Students of the Month are Bethany Dorazio, Gracie Carter, Kynlee Kunkle, and Raionna Strope.

THS Awards Announcement

Rochester Institute of Technology High School Awards
Dr. Rebecca Stanfield, Principal of Towanda Junior/Senior High School, announced this year’s Rochester Institute of Technology High School Award winners. These awards are given to students in the junior class at participating high schools in recognition of outstanding achievement in Business and Leadership, Women in STEM, Science and Math, Computing, and Art and Design. Shaylee Greenland received the Business and Leadership award. Abby Locke received the Women in STEM award. Diego Oliver Aguirre received the Science and Math award. Joel Pelachik received the Computing award. Jocelyn Stroud received the Art and Design award. These students have distinguished themselves by their leadership, service, and achievements. Each recipient will receive a $19,000 per year scholarship at RIT for a total of $76,000 in scholarships should they enroll in the fall following graduation from high school. Congratulations to Shaylee, Abby, Diego, Joel, and Jocelyn!

Rensselaer Medalist
Dr. Rebecca Stanfield, Principal of Towanda Junior/Senior High School, announced this year’s Rensselaer Medalist, Diego Oliver Aguirre. The Rensselaer Medal was awarded beginning in 1916 to recognize the superlative academic achievement of young students, and to motivate those students towards careers in science, engineering and technology. This medal is awarded to students who have distinguished themselves in mathematics and science. The recipient receives a $30,000 per year scholarship for a total of $120,000 in scholarships should they choose to enroll at Rensselaer following her graduation from high school. Congratulations Diego!

Elmira Key Award
Dr. Rebecca Stanfield, Principal of Towanda Junior/Senior High School, announced the recipient of the Elmira College Key Award, Jocelyn Stroud. The Elmira College Key Award is presented to outstanding students in their junior year of high school. Each recipient must have a minimum grade point average of a 3.0, demonstrate school and community leadership, and have an interest in a program offered by Elmira College. The Key Award carries a scholarship with a value of $20,000 per year over four years for a total of $80,000 in scholarships should the recipient choose to enroll at Elmira College following her graduation from high school. Congratulations Jocelyn!

2023 Graduation Livestream

The ceremony will begin at 7:00 PM.

Spanish III Students Create Children's Books

Spanish III wrote children’s books entirely in Spanish! They are super proud of their work, as they should be! Each story is at least 14 pages written in Spanish, focusing on the past tenses. Students also illustrated and read their stories to the class.

Sports Physicals

Sports physicals will be given on June 8th at the high school. Go to studentcentral.bigteams.com (formerly planeths) to set up their parent and student accounts. Returning athletes should just have to put in new forms. Physical forms can be picked up in the main office or when you arrive that day. The cost for the physicals is $19.50.

Hours for physicals will be:
8-11 AM for last names starting with the letters A-M
12:30-3 PM last names starting with the letters N-Z

Towanda High School Boys Basketball Summer Camp

Towanda High School is hosting a Boys Basketball camp this summer. To sign up please email Coach Henry at [email protected] with your student’s name and next year’s grade level, or simply arrive the first day of camp. Money and waiver are due the first day of camp.

Towanda High School Scholarship Challenge Team Places 1st

Towanda High School Scholarship Challenge Team was awarded 1st place at the 43rd Annual FCCB Scholarship Challenge held at the Sayre Theater. This is their second year taking 1st place at this event.

High School Students from New York and Pennsylvania competed for the Kwasnoski Cup and $6,500 in scholarship money by answering questions in this popular quiz show broadcast, created by Chuck Carver, hosted by Dave & Irene Radigan. The Towanda Jr. Sr. High School Faculty and Staff are proud of their efforts and success. Congratulations!
