Rochester Institute of Technology High School Awards
Dr. Rebecca Stanfield, Principal of Towanda Junior/Senior High School, announced this year’s Rochester Institute of Technology High School Award winners. These awards are given to students in the junior class at participating high schools in recognition of outstanding achievement in Business and Leadership, Women in STEM, Science and Math, Computing, and Art and Design. Shaylee Greenland received the Business and Leadership award. Abby Locke received the Women in STEM award. Diego Oliver Aguirre received the Science and Math award. Joel Pelachik received the Computing award. Jocelyn Stroud received the Art and Design award. These students have distinguished themselves by their leadership, service, and achievements. Each recipient will receive a $19,000 per year scholarship at RIT for a total of $76,000 in scholarships should they enroll in the fall following graduation from high school. Congratulations to Shaylee, Abby, Diego, Joel, and Jocelyn!
Rensselaer Medalist
Dr. Rebecca Stanfield, Principal of Towanda Junior/Senior High School, announced this year’s Rensselaer Medalist, Diego Oliver Aguirre. The Rensselaer Medal was awarded beginning in 1916 to recognize the superlative academic achievement of young students, and to motivate those students towards careers in science, engineering and technology. This medal is awarded to students who have distinguished themselves in mathematics and science. The recipient receives a $30,000 per year scholarship for a total of $120,000 in scholarships should they choose to enroll at Rensselaer following her graduation from high school. Elmira Key Award
Dr. Rebecca Stanfield, Principal of Towanda Junior/Senior High School, announced the recipient of the Elmira College Key Award, Jocelyn Stroud. The Elmira College Key Award is presented to outstanding students in their junior year of high school. Each recipient must have a minimum grade point average of a 3.0, demonstrate school and community leadership, and have an interest in a program offered by Elmira College. The Key Award carries a scholarship with a value of $20,000 per year over four years for a total of $80,000 in scholarships should the recipient choose to enroll at Elmira College following her graduation from high school.
