Keystone Exams

Pennsylvania Keystone Exams will be administered to Towanda Junior/Senior High School students during the month of May. The Keystone Exams are end-of course assessments designed to evaluate proficiency in academic content areas. Beginning with the class of 2017, students must demonstrate proficiency on the Algebra 1, Literature, and Biology Keystone Exams to graduate. Students will be offered multiple opportunities to take the Keystones throughout their high school careers. Students who scored Basic or Below Basic on any subject tested during a previous Keystone Exam Administration will be included in this test administration.

Towanda Jr. Sr. High School Medical Careers Club Tours Hershey Medical Center

The Medical Careers Club recently toured Hershey Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital. The members got to see a state-of-the-art facility that just opened in February 2013. The tour included seeing pediatric treatment rooms, a research department, and the emergency department. The students learned about all the various jobs it takes to run a hospital. They had time to interact with nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and educators that work at the hospital. The students spent a full day at the hospital, then went to Hershey’s Chocolate World and spent some time. They got to design and watch the making of their own candy bars.

Explanation of Student Dismissal Procedures

Students/Parents are reminded that students are required to have written parental permission for school dismissals, and provide the office with proof of the appointment in order for the dismissal to be excused. Unexcused school dismissals are the same as unexcused absences and could result in truancy issues. Classes are not to be missed except for the following reasons: medical, dental, counseling, court and/or funeral. This is outlined in the student handbook on page 14 as follows:
