Toys for Tots

Towanda Jr/Sr High School recently participated in a Toys for Tots campaign. Staff and students donated toys that were sent to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The donation was made in memory of Tiffany Flemming, who spent time at that facility. The effort at Towanda was led by students of the National Honor Society and yielded 230 wonderful toys. Pictured with some of the items collected are NHS officers Christian Thomason, Simon Smith, Courtney Locke, and Justin Dickerson.

Towanda Area Junior/Senior High School Pennsylvania Keystone Exams

Pennsylvania Keystone Exams will be administered to Towanda Junior/Senior High School students during the month of January. The Keystone Exams are end-of course assessments designed to evaluate proficiency in academic content areas. Beginning with the class of 2017, students must demonstrate proficiency on the Algebra 1, Literature, and Biology Keystone Exams to graduate. Students will be offered multiple opportunities to take the Keystones throughout their high school careers. The Keystone Exams will replace the 11th grade PSSA tests in math, reading, and science.

The Pennsylvania High School Speech League One Act Play Champions.

Towanda Jr/Sr High School Drama Team won the Pennsylvania High School Speech League One Act Play State Competition held on December 5th and 6th at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA. The team performed a 40 minute cutting of Jessica Dickey’s award winning play, “The Amish Project.” Team members were Caroline Vana, Blakely Watkins, Jordyn Russell-Mills, Kayla Tolan, Tyler Sheets, Samantha Peachey, and Michael Sarno, Jr. The tech crew members were Justin Dickerson and Taylor Hallabuk. Caroline Vana and Blakely Watkins were named to the All-State Cast.

Spanish Class Takes Field Trip

On Thursday, November 20th, students in Mrs. Vicki Millard’s Spanish III and Spanish IV classes took a field trip to the Keystone Theater to watch the award winning documentary Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago. The film follows the journeys of six modern day pilgrims as they walk the medieval “Camino de Santiago”. The Camino de Santiago, also known by the English names Way of St. James, is the name of any of the pilgrimage routes to the shrine of the apostle St. James the Great in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried.

THS Parent/Teacher Conference Schedule

Parent/Teacher conferences for Towanda Jr. Sr. High School students will be held on November 17, 18, 19, and 20. Our teaching staff will be available for conferences on the dates and times listed below. You may call the Jr. Sr. High School at 570-268-2041 beginning Monday, November 10 to schedule an appointment with your child’s teacher. Your involvement in your child’s education is essential in creating positive communication between the school, staff, parent, and student. We look forward to seeing you.

THS Power Technology Class looking for donations of used riding and push lawn mowers

The Power Technology class is a class is designed to introduce students to engines, engine technology and also integrates Algebra 1 Keystone Math content. The course is a Segway for students to enter the Vocational program or a Technical college after high school. As part of the class we completely take apart small engines, repair engines and restore and modify riding mowers. I am looking for used running or not running riding mowers and push mowers to use in the second part of the course. The mowers can be any make or model and can have the mowing deck or not. We will be working in teams to first get the mowers to run and then modify them. If you have an old riding mower laying around that is in reasonable condition (all parts are there and it is not completely locked up) I would really appreciate your donation.
