Towanda Area Jr/Sr High News

Towanda High School has advanced to the final round of the 43rd Annual Scholarship Challenge. Round three of the quiz competition was held on Saturday at Sayre Theatre. Towanda defeated Canton, Elmira and Northeast Bradford. The students are looking forward to doing their best at the March 11th competition.

Towanda Jr. Sr. High School students have been earning Positive Behavior Referrals and receiving a free 6” Subway sub for demonstrating Black Knight Pride in the classroom. Keep up the good work!

Congratulations to the Towanda Jr High Wrestling team on winning Sectionals.

The team finished 14-2 in duals, undefeated in the NTL, and won 4 individual tournaments.

Members of Towanda Jr. Sr. High School visited the Towanda Personal Care Home on Wednesday, December 20th to spend time with the residents. NHS members sang Christmas carols and helped the residents decorate cookies for Christmas. We appreciate the personal care home welcoming our students for a visit!

District 4 wrestling tickets for Wednesday, February 1 can be purchased by scanning the QR code. All tickets must be purchased online, no ticket sales at the door.

Students from the Speech and Debate and FBLA read to the K4 and K5 classrooms. Each student picked their favorite Christmas story to read. The students were Olivia Johnson, Aubree Sbragia, Spencer Jennings, John Dzurinko, Emilie Stroud, Nick Johnson, Lilyann Sproule and Grace Polzella. Some of the stories included classics such as, The Grinch and The Night Before Christmas. While others were newer, If You Take A Mouse to the Movies and Gingerbread Christmas.

Towanda Jr. Sr. High School’s National Honor Society Students have been volunteering their time this holiday season, ringing the bell for The Salvation Army kettle at Hurley’s Supermarket in Towanda. Mrs. Rebecca Stanfield, Principal of Towanda Junior/Senior High School, has announced that Aidan Hennessy and Ryan O’Connor have been named to the district’s “700 Club”. This club is designed to recognize students who score a 700 or more (out of 800) on at least one section of a College Board SAT. This is a feat that only about five percent of the nation’s students attain. The average score on the SAT is about 500 per section (reading, math, and writing). Aidan scored above 700 in the Reading/Writing section. Ryan also scored above a 700 in the Reading/Writing section.
