National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists Named
Noah Poll, a senior at Towanda Area Jr. Sr. High School, has been named a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Approximately 1.5 million juniors take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test or PSAT/NMSQT each year. Noah’s score placed him in the top half of 1% in Pennsylvania, and allows him to continue to the next level of competition.
Noah is the son of Matthew and Shannon Poll, and is a member of the marching band, concert band, scholarship challenge, the National Honor Society, FBLA, IRC, chess club, drama club, and the tennis team. He also volunteers with disaster outreach with Bradford County Human Services, is a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, assists with Operation Blue Santa, and served as a sixth grade camp counselor. Noah’s future plans are to pursue a degree in mathematics or business.
According to the College Board, the National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT in the fall of their junior year.
