ThinkSTEM Program Accepting Applications for Summer Sessions

The Towanda Area School District is now accepting applications for summer sessions of the ThinkSTEM program for students currently in Grades 5 -7. This enrichment program will offer four one week-long sessions this summer. Students may attend one, two, three or all of the sessions. The sessions will run Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 am – 2:00 p.m. at the Ulster Elementary School. The program is FREE to any student who wishes to participate. Transportation from Towanda Jr/Sr High School to ThinkSTEM and lunch during the program will be provided by the Towanda Area School District.

Tennis Court Sunscreens

Henry Dunn Inc. recently donated new sunscreens for the tennis courts located on Lombard St. The tennis courts are a joint venture by the borough and school district. Both the borough and school district maintain a fund for upkeep of the tennis courts. There will be a renovation of the tennis court surface this summer. The school district and borough thank Henry and Hank Dunn and Henry Dunn Inc. for their continued support of the school and community.

District Lockdown Drill

The Towanda Area School District will be conducting a lockdown drill this Friday, May 2, 2014 at 9:00 am. This drill is being done as a part of the ongoing efforts of the district to provide a safe and prepared environment for your students every day. This drill will be conducted by the Towanda Area School District administration.

Each of the three district schools will be closed to visitors during the time of the drill. No one will be permitted in the buildings during the lockdown. Visitors and guests will be allowed back in the building at the completion of the lockdown drill. We anticipate the drill will conclude at approximately 9:30 am.

City Glamour

The Junior Class of 2015 is hosting prom at the Wysox Fire Hall Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 from 7-11pm. Juniors and Seniors are invited to dance the night away. The hall will be decorated with red carpets, bling, diamonds, and skylines. Hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served by waitress’s throughout the night. Music will be provided by Optimum Entertainment. Paparazzi parents are invited to view the Red Carpet to snap photos of their superstars from 7-8. Press passes will be available for $2. Prom Court Crowning will take place at 10pm, public will not be allowed in until 9:50pm. Come tour the city sites and walk the red carpet with us!

Keystone Exams

Pennsylvania Keystone Exams will be administered to Towanda Junior/Senior High School students during the month of May. The Keystone Exams are end-of course assessments designed to evaluate proficiency in academic content areas. Beginning with the class of 2017, students must demonstrate proficiency on the Algebra 1, Literature, and Biology Keystone Exams to graduate. Students will be offered multiple opportunities to take the Keystones throughout their high school careers. Students who scored Basic or Below Basic on any subject tested during a previous Keystone Exam Administration will be included in this test administration.
