The Donald Guthrie Foundation donates $500 to the Towanda Elementary School STEM Outdoor Classroom. Dennis Peachey, Superintendent is holding a rendition of the outdoor classroom. Missing from the photo is Dr. Susan Higley, Elementary Principal and Project Coordinator.

Parent Conferences Letter

2020/21 Parent Conferences

The Towanda Area School District would like to make you aware that beginning with the 2020/2021 school year we will be altering the way we conduct parent/teacher conferences. Conferences will be held on two separate days, November 2 and March 22. These are Act 80 days, and students do not have school. We felt it was important to add a conference day in the spring closer to the end of the school year. Fifteen-minute time slots will be available on both days from 8:00 AM – 6:15 PM. For the November 2 date, we are asking that the conferences be held via zoom or phone call due to Covid-19 concerns. In-person conferences can be held if absolutely necessary, with masks and social distancing followed. We will reevaluate the situation leading up to the March 22 date. If you have an issue with either of those dates or the time frame, please contact your child’s school. We will do our best to accommodate any scheduling conflicts.

Conferences with your child’s teacher(s) can be scheduled by calling the building they attend. The numbers are as follows:

Towanda Elementary Meals Available this week

All Towanda Elementary students will receive breakfast and lunch each day. They will be delivered by their normal afternoon bus or van. Please note the change if your child is a walker or parent pick up, meals will be available for pick up each day at the parent pick up area from 3:00 – 4:00 pm.

Towanda Area Elementary

The intent of this communication is to notify our school community of a recent Covid-19 situation at the Towanda Elementary School.

Yesterday, October 21, 2020, we were notified that a sixth-grade student at Towanda Elementary School has tested positive for Covid-19. The student’s last day in school was Friday October 16. The student began experiencing symptoms Sunday, October 18, and the family did a nice job of keeping the student home since.

Also, today, October 22, 2020, we were notified a 4th grade student and another 6th grade student tested positive. These two students are siblings and were last in school on Monday, October 19.

Based on conversations with the Department of Health, we will be moving our Towanda Elementary School (grades 3-6) to remote learning beginning Friday, October 23, through Friday October 30. This will allow for extra cleaning of that building as well as prevent the possible spread of the virus.

With no current cases in the Jr/Sr High School or J. Andrew Morrow Primary School, those two schools will continue with in-person instruction. We will continue to monitor the situation in those two buildings and adjust, as necessary.

Please know that protocols are in place to keep all students and staff as safe as possible. Our facilities are cleaned daily, including high touch and high traffic areas. We ask that parents continue to screen children daily before coming to school and keep them home if they are sick. If you have a COVID-19 related issue, please call building principals, and they can assist you.

As a community, the key to our success is to continue working together as we strive to keep our students, faculty, and staff safe and healthy. Thank you again for working collaboratively with the district as we navigate through this public health crisis together. Stay safe and stay healthy.

TAES Laptops Going Home

Starting tomorrow Towanda Elementary School will begin to send home the laptops every day with the students. Our expectation is that your student will be responsible to bring their laptop and charger back and forth to school every day. We are beginning this process so that the students can become familiar with transporting their laptop and also to be prepared should the student need the laptop if the need to teach a school day virtually should be necessary. It is recommended that your student transport their laptop back and forth to school every day using a backpack. Please have a conversation with your student about their responsibility and for caring for their laptop. Please remind your student that the laptop should not be taken out of the backpack on the bus. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

TAES Picture Day

We are pleased to provide an opportunity for your student(s) in grades three through six to participate in our picture day. Your student(s) will have the opportunity to have their picture taken by our photographer. In order to accommodate your work schedule, we are doing the pictures for our Black Knight Online Academy and our Virtual Option 2 students in the evening since the schedule for the students that are attending school in person will take the whole school day. To make the process easier for families that have multiple students, we have included a family time so that all students can get their picture taken during the same time period.
