Head Lice Awareness

As we have returned to normal socialization within our school and community be advised that brings along a common problem found especially among school-aged children and their families- head lice.

We ask that you take a pro-active approach with your student/s. As per the American Academy of Pediatrics these are a few steps you can take at home on a regular basis. This is a good way to spot head lice before they have time to multiply and infest (are present in large numbers) your child’s head.
• Seat your child in a brightly lit room.
• Part their hair.
• Look for crawling lice and for nits on your child’s scalp a section at a time.
• Live lice are hard to find. They avoid light and move quickly.
• Nits will look like small white or yellow-brown specks and be firmly attached to the hair near the scalp. The easiest place to find them is at the hairline at the back of the neck or behind the ears. Nits can be confused with many other things such as dandruff, dirt particles or hair spray droplets. The way to tell the difference is that nits firmly attach to hair, while dandruff, dirt or other particles do not.
• Use a fine-tooth comb (such as a louse or nit comb) to help you search the scalp section by section.

Towanda Area School District forms partnership with Commonwealth University

Exciting news for Towanda’s college bound students and their families!
The District is pleased to announce that we signed an agreement with Commonwealth University (Bloomsburg, Mansfield, and Lock Haven) that guarantees admission, on-campus housing, and eligibility for merit-based scholarships specifically for Towanda students pursuing a 4 year program at any of their campuses! In order to qualify, interested students must apply to a bachelor’s degree program at any Commonwealth University campus no later than December 15th of their senior year and graduate from Towanda Jr/Sr High School. Students will be eligible for renewable academic merit scholarships based on their academic preparedness ranging in amounts from $3000/year up to $7000/year for a grand total of $12,000 - $28,000 in merit based scholarships! As a district, we are thrilled with the fantastic opportunity this agreement affords our students to be accepted and awarded an academic merit scholarship to attend Commonwealth University’s Bloomsburg, Mansfield, or Lock Haven campus.

Homecoming Court

2022/2023 Homecoming

The Towanda Jr/Sr High School will be hosting Canton at 7:00 PM on Friday, September 16th for their Homecoming game. Crowning of the Homecoming Queen will take place at halftime. Homecoming Candidates are pictured from L to R: Jocelyn Stroud, Alyse Bass, Kathryn Dunn, Mya Savercool, and Abby Locke.

The Homecoming Dance, “Enchanted Evening” will take place on Saturday, September 17th from 7:00 – 10:00 PM. This event is for 9th – 12th grade students only. Tickets can be purchased for $10.00 during lunch periods.
