STEM Challenge

Students Compete in Governor's STEM Challenge

John Schoonover, Kaigan Stroop, Coleman Butler, and Hannah Ryck all competed together in the 2019 PA Governor's STEM challenge finishing 2nd place overall in the regional competition with their invention the "Backpack Rescue Device". The BRD was designed by the students to assist an injured person in the back country of Pennsylvania to get to a place where paramedics could access them. The BRD was designed to be used as a backpack and then unfold into a wheeled stretcher that could be handled by one person over rough terrain. Mr. Jonathan Sayre and Mr. Jed Lezak helped the students with their design.
Kindergarten

Kindergarten and Pre-K Counts Registration

The Towanda Area School District will be holding Kindergarten and Pre-K Counts registration for all children entering school for the first time in the fall of 2019. Registration will be held at the J. Andrew Morrow Primary School by appointment. Kindergarten registration will be Wednesday, March 27th and Pre-K Counts will be held on Thursday, March 28th. Parents may secure their appointed time when they pick up the registration packets at the J. Andrew Primary School office. If parents prefer, they may print the forms located on the district website under the Parent Tab. Parents may also call the school to schedule their registration appointment at 570-265-4991.

Citizens and Northern Bank Makes Donation

Citizens and Northern Bank donated $7,500 to the Towanda Area School District Education Foundation through the PA Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program. The Foundation has approved programs that the EITC supports through community donations. Programs include Garden of Learning, Science in Motion, Extended Learning, and Holocaust Education.

Important Message

Towanda Jr/Sr High School temporarily went into a modified lock down when a fire alarm unexpectedly was tripped. We looked at our camera system immediately and found that a student accidentally bumped into the file alarm pull station setting it off. The procedures we have in place for this type of situation worked perfectly while we identified the source of the alarm. The modified lock down as been lifted and all students and staff are safe. As a precaution we will continue to have extra police presence at the school.

Important Message

Please be aware that district administration and local police continue to investigate a threat towards the jr/sr high school found in a boy’s bathroom. After interviewing several individuals, the legitimacy of the threat is unfounded. As an extra precaution, we will have extra security measures in place this week. We hope to catch the individual responsible for this idle threat and punish them as the law permits. We do not take these situations lightly and encourage anyone with information to contact administration at the jr/sr high school.

Important Message

Due to continued rumors at the High School, we will be taking extra safety precautions at dismissal. All rumors have been looked into and found to be unsubstantiated at this time.

All students will remain in their period 9 class until regular dismissal time with no open campus today. We will dismiss students in increments by building level floor. As previously stated, we will have extra police presence with us until the remainder of the day. Thank you for your patience during this difficult week. Once again, this is all precautionary.
