The Towanda Boys Black Knight Basketball Team led the December Walk to School this morning.

Over the summer, the first-grade teachers at J. Andrew Morrow Primary School asked members of the community to sponsor students in their classes with a monetary donation of $10 per student. The community responded with an overwhelming amount of support. With the donations received, each student will receive a book every month of the school year. By the end of the year, the students will have 10 brand new books to build a personal library, in which we hope will foster a love of learning. Students and teachers would like to send out a huge thank you to everyone who contributed and allowed this to be such a big success.

The following students were the top box top collectors over the summer and will each receive a Movie Pass from the PTO: Madison Hotaling, Jackson Roberts, Landon Shanks, Aleeah Keeney, Cynthia Baumer, Landon Hotaling, Daven Baumgartel, and Rebekah Bowen.

Local Guitar Hero and former Music teacher Rod Patt dazzled our 2nd grade students with a guitar lesson and activities! Students got to stand up and rock out to Mr. Patt's energetic guitar riffs. He also taught Mrs. Ross' class how electric guitars and amplifiers work, as well as many of the effect pedals. He even brought a bass guitar! The students performed Joan Jett's "I Love Rock and Roll" back in March and they have had a heightened interest in guitar all year. We are grateful that Mr. Patt took the time to visit and share his skills with us, and the students were all smiles!

The first grade students from J. Andrew Morrow in the Towanda Area School District recently enjoyed a day full of hands on learning at their annual Sock Hop. The students, faculty, and staff dressed in their best 50’s attire for the event. Students were engaged in activities inspired by the 50’s which included: bowling, limbo, hula hoops, jump ropes, Bingo, dice addition, car racing, and sight word hopscotch. This was a great opportunity for the students to incorporate academics with social skills such as cooperation and compassion while following our school’s expectations of the three R’s (Respect Yourself, Respect Others, and Respect Property). The students also learned a 50’s dance and attended the “Soda Shop” where they all got a root beer float and snack sponsored by the school’s PTO. We also want to thank the Towanda Fire Department for allowing us to use their facility for this experience.

The first walk to school for 2019 drew a large crowd. Join us the first Wednesday in May for the next walk.

Second-graders in Mrs. Adams’ and Mrs. Lane’s classes are growing fruits and vegetables! The teachers were able to purchase a Tower Garden through a Venture Grant from the Towanda Area Education Foundation.
