With this grant, we are able to supplement our K-5 Second Step Social Emotional Learning Program with additional bully prevention resources! The Second Step Program helps teach students critical skills used for learning and getting along with others. Twenty-six important social-emotional lessons will take place throughout the year in Literacy class at J. Andrew Morrow and Library class at the elementary school. These lessons will focus on skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, problem-solving, and bully prevention. The students’ skills will be reinforced with administrators, teachers, school staff, and families!
This grant will allow us to delve deep into bully prevention skills with our students. They will be provided with ample opportunities to practice recognizing, reporting, and refusing bullying at school, in the community, and online. They will also learn about the power of bystanders to stop bullying behaviors in others.
Our school community is extremely excited to offer this program to our children, and we anticipate that there will be a lot of positive growth to our school climate with the addition of these resources!
