Students made connections between designs in art from Asia, Russia, Africa and the Middle East, and Latin and Central America and the themes in literature read and analyzed from these regions. The students furthered their understandings of the cultural relationships and the art pieces by interacting with the museum docents. The exhibits brought an additional relevancy to the texts studied in class. The trip was established by the English department, but the trip was chaperoned by teachers from a variety of disciplines who were able to make cross-curricular educational links as well. The opportunity was made possible through the Tenth Grade Sees the World Venture Grant funded by the Towanda Area School District Education Foundation.
