Technology and Towanda Turkey Vultures

The Towanda Area High School Science club, in collaboration with Hawk Mountain Sanctuary has been invited to help with this endeavor. Every year, 30 to 50 Vultures can be seen soaring above the high school, roosting in trees to the north of the school and perching on the roof. Science teachers constructed and placed a trap on school property. Once the birds are trapped, a satellite transmitter will be fitted to them.
The exciting part of the project is that Towanda Area school district students will be able to follow the migration route of the birds. Through use of the website www.vulturemovements.org , students can log on, scroll down until they see the birds named Black Knight or Towanda and follow their daily behaviors. Through this project, all grade levels can apply curriculum whether it is Geography, Science, Math, or Literature.
A grant from Towanda Area School District Education Foundation made this project possible.
